Barbara R. Arnwine, president and executive director of the national Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law since 1989, is internationally renowned for contributions on critical justice issues including the passage of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1991 and creation of the renowned 2011 Voting Rights “Map of Shame.” A graduate of Scripps College and Duke University School of Law, she continues to champion civil rights and racial justice issues nationally and internationally in the areas of housing and lending, community development, employment, voting, education, and environmental justice.

Her work also includes immigrant rights, judicial diversity, criminal justice reform, racial profiling and health care disparities. She has served in numerous other prestigious capacities, including international civil, human and women's rights matters. She is a prominent leader of Election Protection (EP), the nation’s largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition. She has received numerous awards including the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights’ Hubert H. Humphrey Civil and Human Rights Award (May 2013) and the Gruber International Justice Prize (October 2011). Arnwine is a member of the ABA's Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities and Vice-Chair of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and an Equal Justice Works board member.
